Thursday evening I had a run out to Ogden hoping to locate any one of the c20 Crossbills seen by D.Br. earlier on Soil Hill , they were en route to Ogden.
A good scan around Back Lane in dull weather did not reveals much.
This afternoon I and a another run out to Ogden ( It's hard to get much enthusiasm to go further afield with this poor weather).
Fine drizzly stuff blown along on a brisk SW breeze made things a bit wet.
Both visits were a tad mundane with nothing out of the ordinary on show.
Thursday's Birds:-
1 Black Headed Gull, Mallard, Heron, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff.
Blackcap, Canada Geese.
Highlight was a Great Spotted Woodpecker seen flying from the edge of Ogden woods across to Back Lane area.
Also about were a Grey Wagtail and 2 Airborne Oystercatchers.
This afternoon's birds:
Pretty much the same woodland species, no Woodpecker but a Nuthatch called.
c20 Gulls, mostly Lesser Black-backed but at least 1 Herring Gull was in among and a couple of Black Headed Gulls at one point.
A few more Black Headed Gulls were arriving as I was leaving.
Cormorant, Grey Wagtail.
Great Crested Grebe was out in the centre of the water at the north end.
A gruesome sight of (probably) a large gull, by the waterside, with most it pecked away. I took a photo but decided it was too gruesome to publish!
Yesterday:
Sounded like Oystercatchers calling but not too sure on the photo.
Today:
Adult Herring Gull looking pretty.
probably a female.
Probably a Lesser Black-backed Gull - lighter sp.
Lesser Black-backed Gull - darker sp.
