A sunny day with a stiff cold NE breeze
Bradshaw:
A short stroll late morning up the fields near home.
c20 Linnet with an 'odd' call from one of them, they landed on the hillside out of sight, which was a shame.
I thought I'd got 2 Snipe, calling, airborne NE towards Soil Hill a nice surprize.
But looking at Waders in flight pic from 'Britain's Birds' guide pages 204/5.....
the flight colours resemble Black Tailed Godwit?
Ringstone:
A very large flock of Canada Geese on the water, were joined by yet more later on.
Black Headed Gull with just 1 Common Gull as far as I could tell.
3 Great Crested Grebe.
26 Lapwing.
Mallard.
2 Moorhen.
After several visits here, I finally caught up with the 'resident' Common Sandpiper, albeit very distant under the west reservoir wall.
5 Pied Wagtail.
An odd white solitary Gull has the look of a Juv. Fulmar of all things but it is probably a trick of the glare from the water.
On the look out for AT's Shoveler, I saw a possible candidate far off on the NW shoreline - but at the distance my bird could well be a Mallard.
The odd large Gull over was about it.
Bradshaw:
Could be the light playing tricks with your waders John though the rear bird looks pale underwing and dark belly which normally would not be consistent with Snipe (???)
ReplyDeleteCould be the light and the call was good for Snipe Dave.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I do not know many Wader calls.
So I'll settle for Snipe - while since I've seen one.
Thanks for the comment.
