A day of sunshine and showers today.
Walk:
We had a walk through Shelf Woods after lunch and were fortunate to miss the showers - a muddy "Wellie Bob" job today.
A small Lapwing flock were in the trailer park fields going, but were absent on our return.
Leaving the car park by the top entrance we turned left down the tarmac lane, through a gate and along a good track.
Ignoring the first stile on the left we carried on down past a dilapidated hay loft where a second stile on the left gives access to a field.
Down the field and a stile drops us down to cross a bridge by a waterfall. Then a steep climb up the 'staircase'.
Nearing the top we took a left and a real cracker of a path took us along the top of the woods. We followed this path, ignoring all turn offs, until it reached a small metal gate by a road.
We ignored the gate and opted to stay on this path.
The path drops down and a horseshoe turn, starts the homeward route.
Again, this path is followed for a good while to drop down to a plank bridge and then climbs up some more chunky steps.
A left here and the path loops around to drop down and then rise up to arrive back near the Car Park.
Birds:
Not a lot on offer, after last times glut of Redwing, today just 2 Redwing was seen with a few of the more common woodland species.
Bradshaw Fields:
I faired better here , walking the fields, nearer home with a short 30 minute outing just before dusk.
Birds:-
Wren, Common Gull, Black Headed Gull.
Kestrel, Sparrowhawk.
Calling Little Owl (not seen).
