Coach Road and Local Fields

I left a wet and windy Bradshaw this morning in favour of a walk down and back up Coach Road bridleway with a slight detour to Sefton Avenue.

Good to have a quick chat to M.S. who stopped in his car.

Dunnocks singing today was nice to hear.

A Tit species looked interesting, its probably a Coal Tit although the diagnostic white stripe on the back of the head was not apparent.

It looked a bit on the large size for a Coal Tit also and the colours are wrong for a Great Tit?

As far as the rarer Tit species (Willow and Marsh) are concerned the bib is too pronounced so Great Tit I'll plump for.

Either way a bit of head scratching made for a pleasant change.

No sign of Woodpeckers on the way down but soon after leaving MS, on my way back, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers were 'sparring' with each other in a tree near the road.

A enjoyable outing.

A kindly lady approached me as I was scanning the trees near Sefton Ave and volunteered to take my phone number and promised to phone me if (when) the Little Pecker makes a well overdue return to the area!

Birds:-

2 Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Great, Coal, Blue and Long Tailed Tit.

2 Nuthatch, 2 Chaffinch (rare bird for me).

4 Bullfinch, Mistle Thrush and a few other sp.

(3 people out walking their dogs related some grim tales about Magpies attacking and partially devouring Starlings!).

c60 Small Gulls at the top of Green Lane (below the Raggalds) seen on my way home.

Local Fields:-

Given the recent poor weather I though I'd make the most of the brighter stuff on offer and so I had an hour around the local fields.

Windy here with the odd shower.

The Little Owl was in its usual place and a Kestrel was out hunting.

Gulls passing overhead included 2 Herring Gulls.

Both Great Spotted Woodpeckers

A soggy looking Bullfinch

Love 'em or hate 'em they make good photo fodder!
