Soil Hill and South of Foreside Lane (Denholme).

A cold day today.

Soil Hill:

A look at Soil Hill this morning was hard work with very little here.

I did eyeball the Taylor Lane Little Owl and apart from 6 (in 2's) Meadow Pipit , 6 Blackbirds and a few Goldfinch in flight nothing much about.

The fields lower down had a good few Gulls on them.

Foreside Lane South:

This aft I parked nr. Denholme Velvets and had a walk back and down Thornton Road to check out the Gulls that I had seen from Soil Hill this morning.

C200 Gulls here mostly Common Gulls.

There were just a couple of Black Headed Gulls, c10 Herring Gulls and a couple of Lesser Black-backed Gulls at one point with Gulls coming and going.

There were no 'White Winged' Gulls as far as I could tell.

There was one quite interesting Gull (which will probably be a Herring Gull!).

Some 1st / 2nd Winter 'Brown' large Gulls are difficult for me to ID with any confidence but they are all probably Herring Gulls, given that there are very few Lesser Black-backed Gulls.

Later I had a walk up a couple of bridleways behind Denholme Velvets but I did not eyeball much.

3 calling Red Grouse were great to hear (rare bird for me this autumn).

A Pheasant and a Moorhen was about the lot!

(I did spend a good deal of time tonight posting Gull photos to the blog and editing them with my best attempt at a description of the Gull species.

A 'meddle' with the HTML version of the blog, learnt me a lesson, after the whole text and annotated photos  'flushed' leaving me with 4 gobblegook letters and buggar all else!

Knowing my Gull ID skills though, you didn't miss much!

Photos.. bart description.

(The first and second  Gull photo  is the 'interesting' ).

Gulls with Soil Hill in the far distance.
