Bradshaw, Soil Hill circular

Another very windy and quite cold day, especially on The Hill.

Birds:

4 Little Owl !

(2 early on, Near East Croft Farm and 2 late on behind DJB's back garden on Bradshaw Lane).

8 Stock Dove seen in a couple of locations with the numerous Woodpigeon.

2 Canada Geese.

3 Mallard

9 Lapwing, 4 Curlew.

1 Heron near a pond west of soil hill.

(Frog spawn in small pool along Soil Hill main track).

A 'Sparrowhawk'(?) was on a post overlooking Soil Hill's north edge.

By the time I'd woken up to the fact that it wasn't a Mistle Thrush the bird was taking flight. Doh!

The bird was very brown and on leaving the post it fanned its tail, showing a pronounced contrast, dark / light barring.

Thinking about it later, a very 'neat looking' bird - the bird could well have been a Merlin... no photo, so I'll never know.

A second (probably Male) Sparrowhawk was airborne near DJB's house I did manage a photo of this one!

Tough going to start but things did improve making for a worthwhile birding walk (still on the Wheatear hunt).
