Another day, another visit to a frozen Soil Hill via Taylor Lane.
2 Red Legged Partridge and a Pied Wagtail were seen on the way up.
It was good to meet with AC along the main track who was just as cold as I would be in a few minutes.
AC had seen Wheatear near the standing stones and I was fortunate enough to eyeball a couple as I went past.
As I was sky watching from the north slope, a phone call from AC on Ned Hill Track alerted me to a sizeable flock of Golden Plover flying over Ovenden Moor. After scanning (too high) I eventually picked them out shining in the sun as they flew - nice one.
A look at the wind swept north slope trees for Ring,'o' revealed... Nothing.
Just a few Lapwing and Curlew lower down and Meadow Pipit and Skylark knocking about.
2 more Partridge sp. flushed from distance, from the bottom of the hill and flew lower down.
On the way back a Little Owl was seen from Taylor Lane.
A Herring Gull flew overhead also.
Abi and I accompanied Sue to Elland Hospital at lunchtime. I was fortunate enough to pick up a Buzzard and a Peregrine on our way home.
The footie was a cold do, later in Bradshaw Park.
The cold did not seem to bother Abi in her shorts!
The saying goes that a child must put her coat on when her Grandmother is cold.
The good thing is John it wont be that cold until late November with a bit of luck...must have been - 4/5 with that wind....the ground was frozen solid in places
ReplyDeletefound 40 + Fieldfare on the lower slopes with 2 Oycks and a few very sad lapwings , after there nest were demolished by local farmer....dohhh
