Ogden to Bradshaw

A light dusting of snow and 1 degrees when Sue dropped me at Ogden this morning.

A bitter N wind over the promenade soon abated as I walked further round the circuit.

First bird up was a large bodied Raptor heading leisurely in the Fly Flats direction.

A good bit of "white" was apparent - a F. Sparrowhawk presumably ?

Other birds here:-

6 Canada Geese, 2 Chiffchaff, Nuthatch.

3 pairs of Tufted Duck.(stayed as far away as possible, apart from one small interlude when they were nearer but obscured by trees)!

Moorhen, Mallard. Heron.

Lost of Robins and the usual Tit sp.

Leaving Ogden Lane a Gull flew quickly past and I got a 'rotten' photo of it - I'm guessing it is a Black Headed Gull and not anything more unusual?

A Lesser Black-backed Gull passed by a bit later.

Along the farm track, the usual species included:-

Mistle Thrush, Stock Dove, Greenfinch, a calling Green Woodpecker and c30 Meadow Pipit.

Nearer home, a singing Linnet was good to hear and a couple of Gulls over, one was a Lesser Black-backed Gull.

The garden watch was a cold affair with just the odd Gull over and a Mistle Thrush in the tree opposite the house.

Sparrowhawk?
Seems very large bodied?

Black Headed Gull?

  1. Nice Linnets John. I got my firsts for the year on Hunter Hill this morning. I wonder if those Tufted Duck are from Cold Edge (4 pairs there) - maybe moved down for some shelter (?)
