A run to Swalesmoor today on another hot day. I was hoping something special might pass me by (probably did!).
A potential 'Tawny Owl' was heard at about 5am this morning through my bedroom window - very, very faint call from distance, but it did call for half an hour or so.
I could not say for definite that it was a Tawny, so I'll have to hope it moves nearer and calls a bit later!
Birds:-
Sparrowhawk mobbed by a Crow type.
Skylarks and Meadow Pipits singing and calling throughout.
I thought I'd got a Tree Pipit (I would wouldn't I!) . The bird rose in the air and floated back down with legs dangling but I could not get the tell-tale note that end it's song - so Meadow Pipit (again).
House Sparrow feeding young.
5 Linnet, 2 Whitethroat.
c30 Lesser Black-backed Gulls.
A very dark 'Feral Pigeon' like bird flew extremely fast > W towards Mixenden at distance is .... probably a Feral Pigeon.
2 House Martin (or the same bird twice) - rare for me.
Swallow, Robin and the usual Crow crew.
A Weasel and a 'pannicky' young Roe Deer running about all over the shop
Possibly separated from its parents, looked big enough to fend for itself though.
Ah---some butterflies too John. Nice one. Thanks for the mammal records too.
