Ripley - North Yorkshire

A day at Ripley this week with a bike ride along the excellent Ripley /Knaresborough / Harrogate cycle track to Knaresborough.

We enjoyed a cafĂ© break, in Knaresborough, below the railway Aqueduct watching people in rowing boats on the river Aire.

In Ripley there is some cracking ice cream and the village shop sells special savoury pies (not to be missed).

A short birding walk was squeezed in also in the hot sunshine.

Birds:-

4 Red Kite, Yellowhammer, Moorhen with young.

Mallard with young.

Blackcap, Whitethroat, Grey Wagtail.

Buzzard, Mistle Thrush.

Canada Geese, Greylag Geese.

House Sparrow, Swift, Swallow and a few House Martins.

Pied Wagtail, Collard Dove,.

2 Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Red Legged Partridge.

A Raptor over chain bar roundabout was probably a Kestrel.

Although I thought it was a Sparrowhawk at the time, even through the bird was attempting to hover.
