Another Wet Outing

I didn't get out and about until after lunch Today, by which time the heavy rain had arrived.

A bit stuck for a venue, I decided on a run out to Oxenhope, and a short walk along the side of Leeshaw reservoir.

Very wet here, and at just 8 degrees , cool, with most Gulls on the far NW shore.

I called at Ogden on the way home and did a very wet circuit of the water.

Birds:-

Leeshaw:

A Female /or young Goosander was constantly diving.

The NW shore Gulls were plentiful but too distant to ID properly.

One large sub-adult Gull was getting some real grief from a Black Headed Gull.

Just a few Meadow Pipits about - I did not eyeball the Geese today.

Ogden:

Just one lap of the reservoir was enough today.

A Grey Wagtail was a nice find.

Cormorant.

c10 Black Headed Gulls, 4 Common Gulls, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull.

The 1st winter Gulls always prove difficult for me to separate between Lesser and Herring.

Mallard, 4 Chaffinch and not a lot else,

Leeshaw:

(Although in this photo the Common Gull looks a bit on the small size)

  1. Have you any more shots of your 'Goosander' John ? Looks to have some similarities to juvenile Red-breasted Merganser ! I'm not sure......
