Ogden / Soil Hill Outings

Abi with us again today and when Sue and Abi went to Aldi , Sue dropped me off at Ogden to pick me up again on her way back.

I had just time for a quick dash around the circuit!

Later I had a more sedately stroll up to and around Soil Hill and back.

A very windy day, especially on Soil Hill top, making birding difficult.

Birds:

Ogden:

Usual Gulls near or on the water.

2 Great Spotted Woodpecker (both heard, neither seen).

Soil Hill:

Very quiet indeed.

Lots of Gulls, way off, in the fields beyond Thornton Road.

Many Starlings in the lower Shay fields.

A Cock Pheasant flushed from the main Soil Hill track.

A small brown bird  scuttling very low , in the scrubby bushes, on the very top eluded me.

Not a Wren or a Pipit was about all I could come up with!

3 Ducks on the NK pond, disappeared under the banking before I could ID them.

A short detour, half way down the north slope tree line, brought a surprize when a dumpy brown bird flushed (no call) and 'awkwardly' flew off in a half circle up and over the hill.

I took 3 quick photos - but the bird was off the mark before I got snapping!

Just caught a glimpse of it it in one photo but when I zoom right in and crop the photo I'm left with what looks like a big brown cow clap alas!

It was Q U I C K.

Pretty sure from its mannerisms that it was a Woodcock - but really disappointed about the photo or lack of one!

2 Pied Wagtail seen along Taylor Lane.
