A truly foul day heavy rain and strong winds this morning with a short gap after lunch when it fined up a tad before more wind and rain and after the clocks turned last night it went dark very quickly.
Not a great birding day, we had an exercise walk along the Thornton / Queensbury cycle track, from Thornton to the Queensbury tunnel and back this afternoon.
We stopped to look at the Raggalds Flood where there was a fair bit of juice. The first juice here in a long time, if my memory serves me right. We must have had a large volume of rainfall, the previous rain fall did not make an impression on it.
Not a birding walk but I did take the bins and camera, just in case, and it's always great to get out and about.
Plenty of contact calls along the track with Bullfinch calling at regular intervals and three Bullfinch seen together.
A Great Spotted Woodpecker called, but remained unseen.
Just 3 Black Headed Gull with a Common Gull seen in the fields.
Jackdaws and Crows was about it.
I was hoping that Raggalds Flood might disclose a migrant / winter Duck sp. but it had just 4 Common and 10 Black Headed Gulls, but great to see some water and with tomorrow mornings forecast rainfall, there might just be something on it tomorrow.
For such a little pool, it has had its moments , with some cracking birds in the past.
Nothing much about again, locally, but if you don't look you never know.
With a 'Training Day' tomorrow and after a really poor journey to Heckmondwike, we have Abi with us this evening.
There is some baking going on at the mo - Lemon Cake I believe so every cloud....
