A late afternoon birding outing up and over a windy Soil Hill.
I was hoping (dreaming) that the rare Desert Wheatear, seen beyond Oxenhope yesterday (or a Snow Bunt.) might have been blown NW down to land on Soil Hill.
The rain had packed in and the climb up from Bradshaw to Soil Hill top soon warmed me up.
Home was via Ned Hill Track / Rd along the farm bridleway and fields.
Birds:-
2 Meadow Pipit along Taylor Lane.
A few Gulls knocking about (mostly Common Gulls).
Some good views, loads of mud, plenty of wind but no birds on Soil Hill.
Nothing doing on Ned Hill Track (this seem to be the norm when a strong W or NW wind is blowing).
3 Pheasant in the Ned Hill Goat field with a Heron overhead mobbed by a Crow.
I nearly missed a Green Woodpecker in a tree by East Croft Farm.
Nearer home a Little Owl was on a wall.
A Mistle Thrush was in a field.
With the light fading it was great to pick out 2 Red Legged Partridge and a Grey Partridge in a field together.
Grey Partridge are pretty rare around here (for me anyway!)
I was glad I got off the settee and made the effort to put me boots on and get out this this afternoon!
