Brighouse towards Elland on the canal

We had a trip to Sainsburys this morning and I had a look around the car park for Thrushes.

The berries look less plentiful than previous years?

Anyway - No Thrushes.

We enjoyed a walk along the canal from Brighouse towards Elland this afternoon, chilly with plenty of sunshine.

(I did not visit the Cromwell Bottom NR today).

Walking , rather than birding  today , but we did see a few birds of interest.

Birds:-

First up was a Sparrowhawk, very high up, near the fishing ponds.

2 Goosander with the Gulls on the Ski Lake were difficult to see through the railings and trees, were a bit nearer on our return - presumably the same birds.

Looking at the photos tonight a Gull, on a buoy, larger then a Common Gull, was possibly a Yellow Legged Gull

However the photo is not very good, so I'll probably let that one go.

A couple of Nuthatch, 2 Moorhen, Heron.

A few Lapwing in the 'Shelf' trailer field seen on our way down.

A Sparrowhawk whizzed past the car as we approached Shelf roundabout  on our way back.

Some fantastic colours in the evening sky, on our way home.

Strange what pops into your head when your doing a blog.

I remember 'spotty Brown' from school.

Always with a permanent cold.

Shirt hanging out loose.

Mud all over his shoes.

He were a strange teacher, he was.

Potential Yellow Legged Gull?
(Is it too light to be a Lesser Black-backed?).

  2. Sorry Dave just got 2 poor photos both in the same "stance" .
So the other photo is worse than the one I posted.
Difficult to see there, and they were half way out on the lake.
Once I crop the photo and post it, It looses a lot of definition.
    Thanks for the comment.
(I was waiting for you to convert my Goosanders to RBM's!!).
    All the best.
