We had to drop the motorhome off at Trust Ford, Huddersfield for an interim service this morning.
While this was being done we had a run over to Blackmoorfoot reservoir.
I had a walk about while Sue read her book in the car.
4 or 5 birders were here, and a really friendly bunch they were.
They mentioned that a Woodcock had been beneath the same tree for a few weeks, and they kindly gave me directions of its location.
I had a walk along the track to see if I could :-
1. Find the right tree and
2. Eyeball the Woodcock.
It transpired (later) that I had found the right tree!!
When I arrived back at the water I mentioned that I had not managed to find the bird.
Later, David, the original finder of the Woodcock, said he would look for it with me , as he headed off home in that direction.
After a short scan, he located the Woodcock - cheers David.
Previously I have flushed Woodcock on Soil Hill but I have never been fortunate to see one at rest, so this was a real buzz and made the trip over there very worthwhile.
I have had to 'enhance' the Woodcock photos a bit to see the bird better in the dark undergrowth , so the colours are a bit off.
Birds:-
Woodcock.
Other birds here included:-
7 Goosander.
Great Crested Grebe.
1 very neat looking Wigeon.
Mallard.
A few Small Gulls (mostly distant).
Nuthatch.
Mistle Thrush.
A Little Owl miles off on a wall was seen MD who had a scope.
He described the area where it sat and I took a few speculative photos of the area on full zoom.
Amazingly one of the photos, when enhanced on the laptop reveals the Little Fella.
A Caspian Gull was seen here lately but failed to materialise during my time here today.
A cracking day for me today and a great end to February - started 1st January with a Snow Bunting and finished 28th February with a Woodcock. Pretty good.
