A bright sunny day, very cold early on with a strong SE breeze throughout.
White holme Reservoir (full to bursting):
We had a trip out to White Holme res. This morning - quite a drive from our joint.
The birding gods were not with us on our visit here today alas.
We parked in the small layby by the access gate on the Crag Vale Road and walked along the excellent track to the water.
A pleasant enough walk but with an icy cold wind, not a morning to hang about.
"Fortunately" there was nothing to hang about for!
Loads of juice and some frozen ground around the water and just one solitary Gull , miles off , on the drink!
2 bird calls vaguely heard against the wind noise as we walked back - a burble from a Skylark and a Red Grouse called - although I could be suffering bird drought disease affecting my hearing.
One definite sighting, with a Skylark flying with the car for a mo. as we went along the road to Craggy's farm shop for a coffee and toasted teacake.
Home - Soil Hill Circular (p.m.):
A walk up to see Raggalds Flood was followed by a hike up Percy Lane and along the field paths to Soil Hill Quarry.
Back via Ned Hill Lane and the farm /field tracks.
Not much happening here either.
3 Meadow Pipit on Soil Hill.
1 Stock Dove.
1 Little Owl.
A few Common Gull.
