Hirst Wood Area (Saltaire) and Local

A drive out to Saltaire to escape the very cold strong wind in Bradshaw ,late morning.

We enjoyed the usual stroll through Hirst Wood and along a very swollen river and along the canal.

The cricket pitch cafĂ© was open today and very enjoyed a snack there.

Late afternoon I had a stroll around the local area, the strong cold wind keeping birds at bay.

Birds:-

Hirst Wood Area:-

Mallard, 3 Goosander, Nuthatch.

Great Spotted Woodpecker, Treecreeper.

2 Kingfisher (or the same one twice, although the sightings were quite far apart).

It was pleasing to see one Kingfisher catch a small 'fish' as it stood on the riverbank near a slower moving pool of water.

30+ Greylag Geese, Canada Geese.

5 Pied Wagtail - probably more though, with the bright sunlight glistening off the gravel on the filter beds making it difficult to see.

Mute Swan, c100 Black Headed Gulls on the cricket pitch.

A Buzzard was way distant high, East.

It has a 'unusually' white underbelly but I think it's a Common Buzzard.

Local Walk:

Little Owl.

A small flock of Starling, jackdaw, Rook, Carrion Crow and Common Gull were feeding together in one of the horse fields.

A short, cool, garden sky watch later brought with it a Buzzard way over Oats Royd.
