After some snow shifting in Bradshaw, we had a call to make at Brighouse and I took the opportunity to check out the ski-lake.
As we parked up a huge snow shower arrived and accompanied us along the canal.
Sue sheltered near the iron bridge while I took a look through the iron railings, not expecting much in the snow.
A Pr. Widgeon were quite near , a Great Crested Grebe was further out and a blurr of a bird over the far side in the snow looked very Swallow like. It was skimming low picking food of the top of the water.
I tried to get a photo but it was impossible to see it through the snowflakes.
We soon headed back towards the car, then the sun appeared, and I decided to go back for a second look while Sue went to the car to warm up!
Two other local birders were at the railings (VK and Jeff M) when I got back there , and I enjoyed their company as we scanned the lake.
The Swallow did reappear, keeping to the far side, and I did get some half decent views of it through the bins but no decent photo, alas, as I was limited for time with 'er in doors waiting in the car to go to the café!
Amazing, all that good weather last week and loads of garden sky watching and I finally get a March Swallow in a snowstorm.
