Saltaire:
Making the best of the dry sunny weather, we had our daily walk at Saltaire this morning, through Hirst Wood, along the canal and along the river.
Our café stop today was at the cricket ground café, where we enjoyed a toasted teacake each and I had a Yorkshire Rascal.
More walking than birding but it was unusually quite on the bird front here today.
Birds:
Song Thrush, Heron, 5 Goosander, Canada and Greylag Geese was about all.
Ogden to Bradshaw:
With Whoopers being reported I though I'd give Ogden Water a try, so Sue dropped me off at Ogden on our way home from Saltaire.
A long 3 hours birding outing today, through Ogden woods, to the east of the water, for a good part before a circuit of the water.
A grunt up Ned Hill was followed by a walk along Soil Hill main track, returning home via the east path above the quarry.
It was good to bump into BS who was smiling, after finding Whoopers at Fly Flats.
No Whoopers for me today but not a bad outing for an Ogden trek really, and great walking weather - plus a tick.
Birds:
Ogden Area:
1 Meadow Pipit.
1 Red Legged Partridge.
Green Woodpecker called (not seen).
Great Spotted Woodpecker (seen).
Kingfisher.
Goldcrest.
2 (at least) Treecreeper.
c17 Gulls on the drink.
Skye Lane to Soil Hill:
3 Lapwing.
Heron.
Pr. Mallard on Soil Hill.
A Moorhen was on the little pond below the field path as I looked east towards Kelham Farm shop.
First time I've seen anything on the small pond.
A Heron overhead was probably the same bird seen earlier.
Soil Hill to Bradshaw:
2 Red Legged Partridge top of Taylor Lane fields.
1 Grey Partridge with the Red Legged Partridge - a rare bird indeed.
I had a slight detour off Bradshaw Lane and picked up a faint Buzzard call from Oats Royd - Only one faint call so I could be mistaken.
A Green Woodpecker called (not seen) near home.
I think the sun must have been a bit stronger today, my mush seems to be complaining?
A new drainage channel is being created along most of the way down one side of Taylor Lane.
The channel looks very shallow to me, with the tons of water that flows down here, will it do the job? Time will tell.
