It's tuning out to be a busy week for us this week.
We had a call to make in Heckmondwike this afternoon and so we decided to have our daily walk at Pugney's that's not to far off Hecky.
Really windy here on the exposed bank near the car park but calm and quite warm where the trees provided some shelter on the other side.
Sue wanted to walk up to the Sandal castle on the far hill today so we made a detour from our usual route to incorporate that - flipping windy up there.
Birds:
A Warbler species was flitting around the lake side bushes on the far side as we walked along.
I managed to get just one pretty lousy photo of the bird.
As I was trying to get the photo I heard my 1st Chiffchaff call from some nearby trees so I'm guessing my Warbler is a Chiffchaff (rather than a Willow Warbler).
I cannot see the birds legs and I think Chiffchaff are normally the first of the common warblers to appear.
Others:-
Tufted Duck, Mute Swan, Mallard, Canada Goose, Greylag Goose.
Pr., Gadwall, Wigeon, Pochard, Moorhen, Coot.
A couple of distant birds asleep, one standing on one Leg(?) were too far off to ID really.
I thought they just might be Shoveler? But they could be Mallard? Do Mallard stand on one leg?
The usual Gulls as far as I could tell - although one Gull stood out as having particularly light plumage - probably a Herring Gull although the bill looks too petite?
Cormorant, Heron, Pied Wagtail.
Pr. Great Crested Grebe - displaying - although they packed it in as soon as they started.
You are guaranteed some good birds with a visit to Pugney's but somehow I get a better buzz from finding a good local bird.
Don't think I'll bore you with our lunch habits today!
