Withens Clough Reservoir to Studley Pike and back

A 'crisp' sunny morning with slips of cloud as we decided to have a moor land hike to Studley Pike.

On our way there we called at Craggy's farm shop at  Crag Vale for a tuna baguette (to share) and a big blueberry muffin (each) to scoff somewhere on the moor....

We know how to push the boat out, we do.

Parking at Withens Clough Reservoir, we headed off to circle it via the south west side of the water before climbing up some quite wet paths through the moorland.

A cracking hike this is, and especially so, on a day like today.

It was very windy on the top by Studley Pike but enjoyable nonetheless.

Sue had her hiking head on today, so I had my work cut out , to take some photos, and keep up!

Sue is a lot younger that I am and I'm inclined to dawdle a bit, if any birds appear.

Birds:-

Just a solitary Grey Heron along the reservoir banking, nothing on the drink.

It was very quiet till we got to Studley Pike where first a Skylark was heard , then 2 were seen having a punch up in the strong wind.

Fancy falling out, and they'd only just got here.

On the way back a distant Buzzard was being mobbed by 2 Crows and a Stonechat was kind enough to bob up onto a wall - my first Stonechat this year.

An unusual sight (??) A pr. Green Woodpecker flew into the conifers to the east of the reservoir. (not unusual - cheers Jacky).

A Kestrel was hunting near the car park as we neared the car.

A memorable Sunday reminding me of our long distance walking days.

Elsewhere a Peregrine Falcon was seen.

A Green Woodpecker was heard as I sat sky gazing in a cold garden this aft.

Looks near from here, old Studley, but it aint!

At Studley Pike and it's
Big bun time!!!

Te Deum Stone.
Latin Translation "We praise thee oh Lord".
Likely use - resting coffins.

Over the garden this afternoon.
Crow??
