Local and Shibden Park

A dull breezy day with the odd shower as we took Emma and Abi to Shibden park for a snack in the cafĂ©  this afternoon.

Earlier, as I sat in the garden, 3 or 4 Carrion Crow were making a lot of noise as they perched, alert, at the top of the big ash tree opposite our house.

Soon other C. Crow joined them until there were about 20 birds all making a real fuss.

I could not see what all the fuss was about and there is no access to the tree.

Periodically I could hear another sound, maybe a bird call, maybe not.

The sound was like a very silent road drill or a quiet football rattle.

Anyway, my Merlin app could not 'hear' it and in the video I took, the noise is very, very faint.

I was hoping it was a Nightjar (still may have been!) but it did not quite match the Collins bird app Nightjar song / call.

After 30 minutes the Crows left and all was silent again.

A bit of excitement for me anyhow.

Late afternoon I had a walk up the local fields.

Birds:-

Garden:

5 Mistle Thrush, 1 Kestrel.

Shibden Park:

5 Mute Swan, 1 Grey Wagtail, Coot with 1 very young cootling, Mallard with 9 young duckling.

Moorhen, Black Headed Gull, Canada Geese etc,

Local Fields:

3 Kestrel all up together, 2 Little Owl.

A Kestrel was being mobbed by a Corvid, I thought it was a Carrion Crow at the time.

In one photo the Corvid looks like a Raven but no call, which is odd?

A very distant photo of a Starling sized bird on a wire is probably a Linnet but looked big for a Linnet. Might just be a Wheatear?

The odd sound heard from the garden at the very end of the video.

Raven?  and Kestrel

Linnet??
