Local:
Yesterday (Tuesday) on a visit to Soyland the car temperature reported 39 degrees.
I didn't venture out until about 8:15pm and then only to walk up the local fields.
Juv. Stock Doves and a Little Owl was about all worth a mention.
Thornton - Queensbury Cycle Track:
We enjoyed a morning stroll along the cycle track where the weather was more bearable with the crazy heat gone, I took my camera and bins for a change.
There was plenty of bird calls and a few songs and some Swifts and welcome breeze as we passed over the viaduct.
A toasted teacake for lunch outside the excellent café was very enjoyable .
Birds:
C10 Swift.
2 Whitethroat, 4 Blackcap, Juv. Robin, Willow Warbler.
Linnet, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Chiffchaff, Bullfinch.
A Buzzard was high, distant and a Raptor that I tough was a Sparrowhawk also distant were good to note.
The Sparrowhawk looked BIG as I studied the photo, later?
Redcar Tarn:
This afternoon we had to pick up something for Emma's Wheelchair from Howdens Mobility, Keighley,
I took the opportunity to have a fleeting visit to the nearby Redcar Tarn.
The water level is quite low here and there is a mass of green algae at the top end.
The Coots didn't seem to mind the algae but it looks like a big heavy downpour or three would be a benefit.
Birds:-
I was hoping for a Med. Gull and I took loads of photos to look through later, but I did not see a Med. Gull as I walked around the perimeter.
Mostly Lesser Black-Backed Gulls here, with a few Black Headed Gulls and fewer Herring Gulls.
Mallard, Coot, Moorhen, Pied Wagtail.
Greylag and Canada Geese.
1 Lapwing, 1 Oystercatcher - was about all.
On our way home near the old Cullingworth Tip, a large Roe Deer dashed out in front of the car crossing the road - just missed it by a few inches.
Nice Ringlet butterfly John. Plenty of those about in the last week or so.
