I enjoyed a three and a half hours birding walk, late morning - early afternoon along the river Calder and the canal today.
A chill in the air to start but it warmed up nicely throughout the walk.
Birds:-
2 Goosander by Elland Bridge and 2 more behind the Avocet buildings nr. Brighouse.
Great Crested Grebe on the Ski Lake.
4 Moorhen.
Jay and Great Spotted Woodpecker heard.
7 Mute Swan (Included 4 younger birds).
Little Egret and a Heron were seen near the weir by the catering hut.
Both soon left to fly up stream.
8 Kingfisher sightings - one flew into the ski lake bushes, the others were seen along the river at various points. One sighting included 2 birds flying up stream together.
7 Cormorant.
and ... a big fish in the canal.
Local Fields yesterday ... 2 Red Legged Partridge, 2 Little Owl.
