A few days break this week took us to the Filey Brigg caravan site.
This , very pleasant place very near Filey Town - which we have visited many times , is beginning to show its age and it could do with some TLC.
However the location , more than makes up for the required TLC (providing you are a birder!).
Some Birds:-
My birding has to fit in with the "holiday stuff" and this being the case I get to seek out some birds, mainly after tea.
The tides, this time, were a bit awkward 'after tea'! But I did come across a few.
Monday.
On Monday the tide was nearly over all the Brigg rocks, with just the end bit above the brine.
Oystercatcher, Turnstone, Great Black-backed Gull were here.
Terns were diving and calling, Sandwich Tern for definite.
An Auk species was caught in one of my Gull / Tern photos and it looks like a Guillemot to me.
4 Heron passed high as the evening darkened.
A look at the small pond west of the high Brigg path held a fantastically camouflaged Teal that. as darkness beckoned, I nearly missed.
Tuesday.
On Tuesday we sat on a packed bus for an hours ride to Bridlington.
A sunny day warm out of the breeze.
Sandwich Terns were diving and a few were on the beach.
Further along opposite Sewerby Hall, below the cliffs, a good number of Terns were with the many Gulls.
We had a much better bus journey back to Filey, getting of at Wharfdale to walk down to Filey Dams.
We had just time to check out each hide.
I managed a lifer in the shape of a Curlew Sandpiper.
I must admit that the bird had me beat (many waders do!!) but I knew a man who could help - cheers DJB.
Wednesday.
Home today via Flamborough Head.
The weather was decidedly chilly this morning and pretty dull at Flamborough.
Birds:-
Little Egret, 4 Curlew, Fulmar, Gannet.
Large flock of Goldfinch and Linnet.
