Abi with us as usual and while she was catching up on her sleep this morning, I had a short time slot!
(She just loves snow and most of the afternoon was taken up us throwing it about or trying to avoid being hit by it.)
I had the usual short walk up the local fields with masses of snow and drifts higher than me wellies this morning
A beautiful sunny morning, clouded over as the day progressed.
Lots of people out shifting the snow about.
The clear blue sky makes airborne birds quite difficult to pick out but I did ok.
A Kestrel was in a tree opposite our house and a second one was seen along the walk.
2 Buzzards were calling and I managed to spot 'em very high overhead, effortlessly soaring together - they looked brilliant in the sunshine.
I managed a few mediocre distant photos of them.
A couple of Wren were on the path after Wards View but no sign of
the Little Owl(s) today.
Top of the pops was a pair of Grey Partridge - quit a scarce bird for me and probably fairly scarce in Calderdale.
An enjoyable saunter.
Snowing again this evening but we made it back from Heckmondwike before it started to stick. Coming thorough Mountain on our way home in the snow is something else!!
The Raggalds Inn looked busy this evening - hope they all get home safely,.
Grey Partridge really scarce for us nowadays John. Soon spooked as well so did well to get a shot of them.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave. They seemed relaxed, had found some where without snow under the bushes. Great to see, and as you say, usually flush immediately. Thought I'd a 2023 tick but I'd seen some on 1st Jan!!
