I manged to get some gardening done this morning, abandoning it every '5 mins' to dash in and out of the house to avoid the hefty downpours.
With some Brownie points under my belt I headed off to Ponden , this afternoon, while Sue got the paint brushes out.
(A good move on my part, I'd say - If I paint owt more ends up on me than on the walls).
I though I could shelter in the car if the weather got nasty, and this worked quite well.
I only had a small camera and Leeshaw seemed dogged by flies, so although I had the scope
in the car I had to keep moving to avoid the lousy things!
Given the weather I really did have 4 hours of enjoyment.
********************************************************************
To show the large number of Geese here I took a really awful fast video ...
(fast as I was afraid I'd use up all the small camera's card space if I went slowly, and have no space left to photo my imminent lifer).
It obviously scans far too quickly along the shoreline, but I was hoping to doctor the video into a slow motion video using Windows built in 'Films & TV app" but the app crashes when I use this option - with the very, very helpful error message 0x80070057.
Birds:-
Ponden:
Ponden is full to the brim and there was some boating action just getting going at the top end.
No birds on the water except the odd Mallard.
Kestrel, Greenfinch, 2 Sand Martin, 6 Swallow, 3 Big Gulls probably LBBG.
1 Greylag distant in the fields (probably loads more but I didn't see 'em).
Lower Laithe:
4 Oystercatcher, Many Canada geese, Swallow, 6 Lapwing, Greylag Geese.
Leeshaw:
Good shoreline if very distant.
The place was buzzing with noisy Geese and Oystercatcher.
Something flushed both Geese and Oyks from the same field and the noise was great to hear as both species called or grunted their disdain.
2 Common Sandpiper flashed through the bins as I was scanning the far shoreline.
They continue on and landed out of sight in the far west corner.
Just one Lesser Black-backed Gull over with 2 Black Headed Gull landing on the far bank.
4 Lapwing one having a real go at a Magpie.
One small Wader species on the far bank dashed about then stopped suddenly.
It looks like a Juv. Lapwing going by the long legs but the photo at this distance is rubbish,
I Curlew with a shorter bill is probably a Juv.
Swallow, 2 Stock Dove, Raven.
Leeming:
Plenty of shoreline - possibly too much with 2 Dogs (one at either end) enjoying the water,
Heron, 5 Canada Geese, Chiffchaff , Willow Warbler, Greenfinch, Bullfinch.
Moorhen, Pheasant,
Nothing much on the water and there looked to be a Tufted Duck on the shore with the Mallard.
2 Pied Wagtail, 6 Sand Martin.
A Swift over the car as I approached the salt pile.
Nothing out of the ordinary today but it is always good to get out into the fresh air (and I could not
face Ogden again today).
Just a few, poor photos.
