Abi and Emma to entertain today with a visit to White Windows and a late lunch in 'Spoons' in Sowerby Bridge.
I had a very cool walk up to the Raggalds this morning while Abi was doing some baking.
The water is fast disappearing and will probably have dried up by tomorrow (alas).
c95 Gulls were relaxing and preening themselves. All Small Gulls (Mostly Common Gulls).
Wagtail species was heard but not seen.
One the way up there a Little Owl was seen from Bradshaw Lane and 4/5 'Finches' flew high South calling - a call I did not recognise.
I took a short video of the birds but they were too distant to be heard on the video?
Later, a very short sky watch brought me a Buzzard over Roper Lane.
The weather warmed up nicely as I had walk up the local fields both mid-morning and late evening today,
This morning:
c150 Gulls (mostly Common Gulls) were in fields.
1 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 1 Herring Gull in among.
A Little Owl and a Kestrel were also seen.
A Sparrowhawk mobbed by Crows.
A large "White Bird" > North, that I thought was a Gull, then had second thoughts!
By the time the brain kicked in the "Gull" was nearly out of sight.
It could well have been an Egret species.
This Evening:
Gulls in good numbers strewn over several fields.
Included a Herring Gull with a leg ring (probably the one I saw the other day).
I thought I heard a very distant singing Mistle Thrush but it soon stopped singing.
I know Mistle Thrush do sing in the winter, but it seemed too early, so I'll write this one off!!
10 or so Mistle Thrush here.
4 Goldfinch.
Kestrel on a post.
Large Gulls > West, high, late on.
White Windows (Sowerby Bridge) this aft:
A Cormorant was seen from Sowerby Bridge, Bridge as we passed in the car.
A Nuthatch was heard then seen.
A 'possible' calling Chiffchaff.
4 Red Admirals making the most of the balmy weather.
