Soil Hill Snow Bunting Twitch / Thornton Cycle Track / Local Fields

A sunny crisp , very cold, morning where, unfortunately, I was dashing about with the Hover at home.

A grapevine ping from DJB of a fantastic find by him of a Snow Bunting on Soil Hill,  went unheard , as the Hover buzzed loudly, but, the second ping was heard!

I thought it wise , in the interest of household harmony , to continue with my bit of the cleaning before heading off to look for the Bunt.

DJB, DJS and DP - Three of the top birding brains in West Yorkshire ( and me 👀) had an hour or so search on a cold Hill but the Bird was not to be found!

Lots and lots of  "Soil Hill" to look at so the bird is probably still there.

I did get a smallish bird, calling , that flew straight at me then over my bonce.

It had gone too far away by the time DJS and DP picked it out, in there bins, to ID alas.

The call was a single note, quite a gap, then another single note...  possibly 3 seconds between notes... best I can come up with.

Really enjoyable to be on the hill in the sun with the other guys today.

And we did get a few birds in among.

After lunch Sue and I had an enjoyable cold stroll along the cycle path at Thornton.

Loads of Berries along here.

Raggalds Flood frozen over and bereft of birds as we passed in the car.

Just before dusk I had a stroll up the local fields to make the most of this great dry weather.
