Life gets in the way of birding this week-end (boo-hoo).
Twitching Rule 7:
Always twitch immediately after hearing of the Mega's location.
Leaving it too late leads to frustration. 😡 !
Snow overnight and some to shift off the drive this morning - fog also.
(Snowing outside tonight).
Today (Sunday) I finally got to search for the "St. Albans" Waxwings found by DJS late Friday afternoon!
On Saturday Abi had an appointment at Brier Hey Pottery, Mytholmroyd to finish painting her cat ( overseen by her aunt Ruth who is a potter there ).
Afterwards we dropped her at Heckmondwike and called at Pudsey Go-Outdoors for my "none surprise" Christmas present of some new hiking boots.
I looked on t'internet before we went , and Go Outdoors had an offer on, where they would beat the price of (plus 10% ) any lower offer for the same boots.
I like Scarpa Ranger boots (I walked the coast to coat in them ... long , long ago now ) and they were just the job.
Felling very "Wile e Coyote' ...
I had checked the internet lowest price and reckoned we could save £28.
When we reached the till, I mentioned the offer and the lady said she would just go outside and check on her phone ( no signal in the shop ).
Hey-up I thought!
Anyway the lady found a website which was even cheaper than the one I'd found!
In the end I (Sue really) saved a whopping £55 - result or what?
All this guff (although informative) means I ain't seen a lot of birds!
Today:
I had a real good look around St. Albans , Lawrence Road, Saville Park.
Manor Heath Park, Birdcage Lane and Broomfield Avenue.
A murky dull outing with thick fog in places as I returned home.
Birds:-
(A real struggle)
2 Collared Dove.
Goldfinch knocking about.
Starling.
Blackbird.
1 Mistle Thrush.
Nuthatch.
Greenfinch.
Chaffinch.
Black Headed and Common Gull on Saville Park but most were very distant.
2 Goldcrest.
Plus a few others.
c130 Starlings on Pavement Lane wires near home.
