I had a run over to Ogden after lunch today and did a circuit of the drink on a cold dull day.
The water was very quiet with 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (dropped in and left), 25 Common Gulls and 18 Black Headed Gull.
Much later many, many Gulls in groups of c50 were seen > SSW (ish). These included some Herring Gulls.
The circuit was deads-ville until a call of nature had me leave the water looking for a suitable tree near Ogden Clough - old age creeps up in you - don't it?
A little way up the path from Ogden Clough 'pond' I located the Redpoll flock that have been seen here previously.
As per usual they were high in the dark canopy and very very skittish - leaving the trees (I was watching ) suddenly before returning to a nearby area.
I did take a lot of photographs but they were not brilliant.
A couple of birds did drop down to drink at the pond edge.
No prizes for my photo of these either!
It was good to be joined by DJS and HC and the Redpoll were relocated, again in the dark canopy as the light faded as the afternoon progressed.
This flock was scattered by the appearance of a Sparrowhawk.
HC also eyeballed a fast moving Peregrine over the tree tops > South and away.
