A Long Day Out

We intended to walk from Littleborough to Hollingworth Lake and back to Todmorden today, but things didn't quite work out that way.

We caught the 9:30 bus to Halifax, arrived at 10:07, and intended to catch the Rochdale bus to Littleborough but there was a 50 minute wait for it.

I Googled Trains from Halifax to Littleborough and there was one at 10:17 so we legged it down the road to the station. With less than 10 mins to get there.

However the 10:17 went to Rochdale called at numerous stations on the way but NOT Littleborough!

So, we got off at Todmorden and had a quick brunch at Morrisons of a sausage (me) bacon (Sue) sarnie before setting off along the canal towards Hollingworth Lake.

We called at The Summit Inn for a thirst quenching Coke (A warm day now) before climbing out of Littleborough up to Hollingworth Lake.

A small toasted teacake and a refreshing juice , at the really 1st class RSPCA café here, set us up nicely to do a circuit of the lake before heading off down the road to Littleborough Station for a train to Halifax.

There was a train in 30 minutes but it went to Sowerby Bridge and then Brighouse , not Halifax, so we legged it to the bus stop to see that the next bus was later still, so we legged it back to the station and paid tooooooo much for a ticket to Sowerby Bridge.

We intended to have a meal at Sowerby Bridge Wetherspoon but it was rammed, so we caught a bus to Halifax followed by the Illingworth bus before legging it home to Bradshaw at 7 p.m. completed a long day.
