After a visit to White Windows Care Home at Sowerby Bridge this morning, Sue kindly took a diversion "on the way home" so I could hone my sad birder routine at Ringstone Reservoir above Barkisland.
There was a lot of mist here rolling in and out like a drunkard.
A small flock of Ducks were in the NW corner asleep on the water, making ID difficult through the murk.
After walking the road circuit next to the water I continued along the west end grass to get a better view of the Ducks.
I was a tad unlucky because the clear sky slot that I started with became mist-fillled by the time I got near the NW corner.
It transpired that the distant Ducks were 9 Goldeneye (3f 6m).
A Common Buzzard ,that was perched on a post in the mist, flushed before I could get a decent sight of it.
Some photos have been tarted up a bit!
A small skein of Geese that were invisible, calling from the mist, suddenly appeared from out of it, and then just as quickly disappeared again - Canada Geese.
Distant Gulls that were on the water and airborne were difficult to ID with any confidence given all this murk. But Common and Black-headed Gulls were here and a few Herring Gulls.
Other than a few Mallard, Bullfinch and Greenfinch, that was my lot.
I hope Santa brought you what you were hoping for - Happy Christmas - Thanks for looking in.
I did alright with my presents really, just the "cuddly WOK" or its equivalent present left me somewhat nonplussed!!
