Very misty here and thick fog at Mountain when we had a vusit to Tesco's Queensbury this morning.
Late-ish afternoon I had a walk along the sodden local fields, through Crabtree Hall derelict buildings to Ned Hill Lane.
After grunting up Ned Hill I went over Soil Hill Main paths to exit onto Percy Road.
Good to chat with AC who stopped in his car here.
Home was via Taylor Lane etc.
Introducing my new tech. book:-
Fun with a laptop in the evening.
This evening I powered my Laptop on as usual.
Half a minute later the screen went blank.
No response to the on switch - dead as a Dodo.
I looked up the original paperwork and in 5 days it will be exactly 3 years old.
The warranty was for only one year, so no joy there.
So I guessed it's a visit to the Halifax Laptop Shop tomorrow.
I dragged an old steam powered laptop (same make) out of a drawer upstairs.
The power cable was compatible, so I plugged it in.
I powered it up and guess what it too failed to function.
Ah! Sherlock - There is something well dodgy going on here.
Perhaps its the wall socket?
Nope it's fine when I check it out.
Ah! Sherlock - use the old power cable on the old laptop.
Eureka! The old one works.
Ah! Sherlock - It's the new laptops power cable.
and...
When I look at the new power cable the joining pluggy bit (tech term) in the middle of the power cable is slightly loose from the non-pluggy bit on the same cable.
Using all my IT knowledge from my previous employment - I pushed the pluggy bit into the non-pluggy bit and voila both laptops are now working.
So what has happened is the new laptop, having no mains power, has run down the battery to zilch - without any warning at all.
I would have looked a bigger plonker, than I normally look, if I'd have taken it to the Halifax Laptop Shop.
I am actually sitting here felling rather smug.
Birds:-
Another January blues day.
5 Herring Gull.
C60 Common Gull.
Gulls floating about over soil hill also.
2 Pheasant.
8 (5,3) Red Legged Partridge.
Little Owl.
2 Stock Dove.
C12 Goldfinch.
8 (5,3) Mallard.
Good to get out and about , even if me wellie has sprung a leak.
