Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve

I was on the hunt for something "new" today.

The weather in Bradshaw was decidedly iff this morning.

Sue took Abi to the dentist today....

(Abi is more brave than I am - I hate the dentist)

.... while I drove down to Brighouse to park near the Avocet building.

For a change of route I walked along the road to check the Ski-lake from the hotel car park and then carried on along the road to enter Cromwell Bottom NR.

There must have been a prang on the M62 because there was a queue of traffic from Brighouse to Cromwell Bottom NR.

After a short scoot around I called at a busy Nature Reserve cafe,  enjoying a coffee with fruit cake with cheese.

I then had another long scoot around.

Birding: Rule 678.

Never make a list of 'target' birds ( not even in your bonce ) because you'll never see 'um.

Birds:-

A bit disappointing today really, awkward viewing of the lake from the railings 👀 and Ducks were very distant when I checked them out from the hotel car park 👀Boo Hoo.

3 Pairs of Goldeneye plus 1 Female & 2 Males.

18 Tufted Duck.

4 Herring Gull.

7 Cormorant.

5 Moorhen.

3 Coot.

Pied Wagtail.

2 Heron.

Great Spotted Woodpecker.

3 Stock Dove.

Mute Swan.

1 Red Head Goosander.

3 Lesser Black-backed Gull.

1 Male 1 Female Scaup.

'Usual' small Gulls are far as I could tell.

A very smart light coloured large Gull in the fields next to the road is probably a 1st Winter Herring Gull.

Also, the big Herring Gull on the ski-lake buoy was a cool dude.

A Peregrine was on near Knowles Pipe Works on a Chimney scaffold.
