Snow today so .... a look back at April & May 2024

No birding today as A big dump of snow appeared outside this morning with some drifting.

I spent a lot of the time moving it because we are expecting a delivery from "Dreams" tomorrow - at 7a.m.

Hope I get some Dreams tonight as well.

Late afternoon the weather thawed a bit to sleety rainy stuff so I though I'd wasted my time moving the snow - we'll see what tomorrow will bring,



So here are a few bits from earlier in the year...

April 2024 Highlights.

The birds have stared to arrive from abroad now , some moving through other stopping to breed.

Blackbirds are already feeding young and Waders are announcing their presence.

On the 2nd Cold Edge Dams had 5 Redshank, Red Grouse to name a couple.

On the 4th Linnet, 2 Grey Partridge and a Bard Owl were seen locally.

On the 5th an Ilkley river walk had 1 Swallow, 6 Sand Martin, 2 Redshank.

11th c10 Blackcap, c10 Chiffchaff and 4 Willow Warbler were seen at Cromwell LNR.

11th Red Kite and Skylark were seen from Soil Hill.

14th - 17th On a Bridlington Holiday I saw  Purple Sandpiper, Dunlin, Kittiwake, Gannet.

                    Sanderling and Yellow Hammer.

20th A Swallow was seen on a walk from Tod to Ludd. Foot.

23rd - 24th Ring Ouzel graced the local Bradshaw Fields.

25th Blackstone Edge - Twite, Common Sandpiper, Wheatear.

26th Fly Flats revealed a Common Sandpiper.

27th Along the Castle Car Road area Linnet, Reed Bunting, Snipe were seen.






















 

May 2024.

We had holiday on the east coast early in May Visiting Filey, Whitby and Cayton Bay.

Red Throated Diver and Sandwich Terns were seen as well as the usual species here.

A short break at Bolton Le Sands where there were Ringed Plover and Little Egret.

On the 7th Whitethroat and Willow Warblers on Soil Hill.

On the 8th a great local sighting of 3 Whinchat.

A visit on the 10th was rewarded with Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, Reed Bunting.

17th brought me my 1st local Swift over Soil Hill.

On the 22nd we had a look at Maryport where a Sedge Warbler was seen.
