A beautiful sunny day was deceptively cool given the very strong wind - especially on Soil Hill top.
An energetic walk today up to and over Soil Hill, around Ogden Water and back up and over Soil Hill.
The wind on the hill kept birds up there to a minimum but there were a large number of Starling with some Lapwings in the Shay fields with 2 Teal just discernible at the side of NK pond.
I ate my butties with a coffee and choc-choc bar in the Ogden "cafe" and enjoyed a restful natter there also then did the circuit before going home via back lane and the hill.
Birds of the day were Whooper Swan on Mixenden reservoir seen a long, long way off seen from Soil Hill top. that I reported as c11 Whoopers - later confirmed as 12 Whoopers by B.S.
(see Brian's blog for some great photos of the Whoopers).
As I walked down Syke Lane towards Ogden, I spotted A BIG GREY aircraft "tail fin" disappear over the hill near Fly Flats.
Later it came back round and it was kindly ID'd for me by Steve D as an Airbus Atlas - thank you Steve.
Birds:-

3 Thrush species nearly hidden by a fence turned out to be:-

Ogden:
Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Mistle Thrush.
80 Gulls on the water.
Very quiet on the circuit again but some rocky shoreline appearing so fingers crossed if it stays we might yet get a goody.
On the return journey......
Taylor Lane.
1 Fieldfare.
A Red Legged Partridge flushed from the lower midden with a wild alarm call - one that I've never heard before!
Not a bad outing really and great exercise.
