A really dismal Thursday morning here in Bradshaw with fine drizzle and murk - the stuff that wets you through in a breath.
We had arranged to meet some friends for an early tea at Spoons in Brighouse in the afternoon and I took the opportunity to have a quick look at the ski-lake and lagoon areas.
Nothing new here for me today but a few birds were seen in this very short birding outing.
Swifts were zooming about over the Avocet building with Sand Martin calling and the odd Swallow too.
I did not realise that the temperature had soared since we had left Siberia earlier, and I looked a right plonker trudging along, sweating, with warm coat and me wellies on.
The 'usual' singing birds remained mostly unseen as I trudged along the canal to the Ski Lake.
My "Merlin" birding app reported hearing a Common Redstart along the canal, but I did not hear anything at the time and there was no sign of any birds about - the app only reported it once so I wrote it off as a mis-identification.
Merlin is brilliant - but, like us all, only human.
The ski-lake was deads-ville with Gulls not returning yet, although one Black Headed and a few Lesser Black-backed Gulls were seen flying about.
A Moorhen was on the Lagoon and a Blackcap sang and a Bullfinch called from hereabouts.
A distant Goosander was asleep on the pebbles behind the Avocet building with 6 young birds.
